9 days – 16 countries – 58 companies – 143 performances – 7 theaters

The Prague Fringe Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. From May 22 to 30, 2026, the world’s top-notch original theater of all genres, from drama to movement theater to comedy, will be presented in the English original in Malá Strana.

Founded in 2002 by Scot Steve Gove, an olde timer at the famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe (30 years now), Prague Fringe has long been one of the most prominent independent cultural events in Europe. Every year, the festival connects established artists with new talents and hosts a unique place for contemporary performing arts in the intimate atmosphere of Malá Strana theatres and non-traditional spaces.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the festival is returning to its Scottish roots and presenting a Scottish season – the program will feature 7 Scottish productions, including the aptly named show Scotland!, which takes a dig at Scottish stereotypes and returns to Prague for the second time. Another big return is the Indian stand-up star Tarang Hardikar, who is selling out European tours with his stand-ups and collecting millions of views on YouTube.

As part of the mini-festival of India, the festival will present another 8 carefully selected productions from all corners of the world's most populous country.

As usual, award-winning Italian artists will perform. The production Radici (Roots) won the Prague Fringe award at the Fringe in Catania, Sicily.

The program will also include 3 productions from Taiwan – Prague can look forward to the return of the Taipei Shinehouse Theatre, which will present a production of the movement theater The Rodin Project: Lady Macbeth

Festival Director Steve Gove says:

I am humbled to announce the 25th year of the festival. When we founded it in 2002, our sole aim was to bring the festival to life. The fact that we have managed to continuously develop and advance it over the years is an unbelievable joy for me. Here’s to another 25 years!
