PRAGUE PREPARES FOR FRINGE FEVER
Prague Fringe: 22th - 30th May
The Czech capital is gearing up for a marathon of 200 theatrical performances in the 8th annual Prague Fringe Festival, Friday 22nd - Sunday 30th May.
Performers from across the globe are set to delight festival-goers with an eclectic mix of theatre over the nine day Fringe. Acts from as far a field as Australia, Canada, Scotland, Norway and Israel will set up camp in the Festival's 7 unique venues around the historic, central Mala Strana area below Prague's castle.
Prague Fringe Director, Steve Gove says the Festival will be bursting with creative energy and refreshing unique new works of all sorts. 'We're always amazed by the breadth of imagination in the productions and companies we receive applications from' says Gove. The event will feature performances from 10 countries including nine Czech shows, the most home-grown talent to be featured so far at the Fringe.
'The Fringe is a well-swirled mixing pot of international performance, with late night burlesque, verse, circus skills, dance, music, spoken word, comedy, cabaret and improvisation. No matter what your taste there's sure to be something to appeal to everyone' says Gove. 'Including for the first time at the Prague Fringe - live painting.'
The Festival is emerging as one of the city's most exciting annual cultural events. 'Associate Director Carole Wears agrees with the truly eclectic description of the Festival programme. 'We're delighted that this year's event will feature world premieres and new writing including poetry specially devised for the Prague Fringe. We've got a burlesque tribute to Stanley Kubrik, Kafka's view of humankind through the eyes of an ape and the trials of a 20th century Parisian who discovers a medieval monk between her sheets. These are just a few of the diverse shows to enjoy at the Prague Fringe' says Wears.
