Prague Daily Monitor - Steve Gove Pod Cast Interview
Prague Fringe Festival 27th May - 3rd June 2007
The Czech Capital gears up for biggest and best ever Fringe Festival.
Due to popular demand this year's Fringe extravaganza is stretching to 8 days, adding two new venues and a new Fringe Club, as well as bringing even more exciting new theatre, music, film and comedy from around the world to Prague audiences.
More than 170 artists from as far a field as South America, India and Australia will converge on the Fringe's 8 central venues in Malá Strana.
The annual cultural marathon is designed to allow audiences to see as many of the 43 shows as they can, with most productions around one hour in duration and reasonably priced tickets. The mix includes drama, physical theatre, some non-verbal productions and shows suitable for children, plus a wealth of Czech talent.
„The whole event is programmed so that not only you can see all of the shows over the space of the week, take in the beautiful sites of Prague during the day if you're visiting us from abroad, and join us for fun and after show frolics in our soon to be announced Fringe Club '07, but throughout the day and into the early evening you can chill out in our tea tent or relax with our Thai massage team who'll be on hand to recharge your batteries for Fringe fun ahead„ says Festival Director, Steve Gove.
Director of world's largest Fringe Festival to attend PFF
The Prague Fringe Festival is one of around 50 such festivals around the world. It's based around the principles of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which has been running for 60 years and now sells more than 1.5m tickets over it's three-week duration.
Paul Gudgin, Director of The Edinburgh Festival Fringe will join Ladislav Pflimpfl, Director of the Czech Cultural Centre in London and Prague Fringe Founder/ Director, Steve Gove who has been involved with the EFF for ten years to discuss opportunities for Czech independent theatre companies, productions and projects to perform in Scotland at the world's largest festival.
Steve Gove has recently been named in the UK media as a strong contender to replace Paul Gudgin when the Edinburgh Fringe Director quits the high profile role later this year. However Steve has absolutely no plans to leave the Prague Fringe, not even for what is hailed as one of the top arts jobs in the world.
Seeking actors for English language New Play Series!
Playwrights in Prague, a joint venture of the Prague Fringe Festival and the Playwrights' Center (USA) is seeking actors of various ages and type, to participate in our inaugural series.
The 'Playwrights in Prague' writers series is another vibrant new intiative for this year's Prague Fringe. Actors from various Fringe shows and others will come together to stage five fresh new plays in five days - all during lunch hour! Collaborators will have just 3 hours to meet each other and rehearse the works of some of the hottest young award-winning American and Czech playwrights. Artists keen to participate should get in touch with Fringe organisers.
The popularity of the Prague Fringe Festival continues to grow with ticket sales last year up 56% on the previous year, and this year's event looks set to be even more in demand. Tickets for Prague Fringe 2007 will go on sale after the release of the programme at the end of April.
